A variable that can take a certain set of values with given probabilities. Formalized using a Probability space as a map X:ΩRX:\Omega \to \mathbb{R} such that the image X(Ω)X(\Omega) is measurable and X1(x)FX^{-1}(x) \in \mathcal{F} (the event space) x\forall x in the image of XX. This allows to consider P(XA)P({X \in A}) for an AFA \in \mathcal{F}
