Fundamental group

Fundamental group of the circle. Uses Homotopy lifting lemma and corollaries (see Covering).

π(S1,1)Z\pi(S^1, 1) \cong \mathbb{Z}. which are the Rotation numbers

Fundamental group of the torus. Z2\mathbb{Z}^2

Real projective space (see Projective plane). its topology. Fundamental group is isomorphic to Z2=Z/2Z\mathbb{Z}_2 = \mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}. Shown using Path lifting lemma and Homotopy lifting lemma
